Be treatwise

Be treatwise - Get to know your %DIs

What is Be treatwise?
Be treatwise is a message to educate and remind people that confectionery is a treat that is designed to be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet and active lifestyle.

The Be treatwise logo is a visual reminder that confectionery is a treat.

The Be treatwise logo on the front of our packs encourages people to ‘Get to know your %DIs’ and look at the nutrition information panel on the back of our packs. Our nutrition information panels are clear and easy to read and give information on serving size and percentage Daily Intakes (%DIs) as well as nutrition information.

Be treatwise also includes a message on our labels to enjoy treats as part of a balanced lifestyle and a link to the Be treatwise website so that people can learn more about our products and what we are doing.

Is nutrition information part of Be treatwise?

Nutrition information is an important part of Be treatwise. Nutrition labelling helps people to make decisions about what foods to include in a balanced diet and lifestyle.

We ensure that the nutrition information on our products as clear and easy to read as possible. The nutrition information panel gives information on serving size and the nutrients in one serving of a product, as well as in 100 grams. The nutrients include kilojoules, protein, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates, sugars and sodium.

As part of Be treatwise we have enhanced our nutrition information to provide more detailed information, including serving size and percentage Daily Intakes. We encourage people to “Get to know your %DIs” to help them to make decisions about choosing a balanced diet and to better understand how confectionery can be enjoyed as occasional treats.

What are Daily Intakes (DIs)?

Daily Intakes are guideline daily amounts of nutrients that are appropriate for an average adult in Australia and New Zealand. Daily Intakes are based on an average adult diet of 8700 kilojoules a day – individual Daily Intakes may be higher or lower depending on energy needs.

Our nutrition information panels show what percentage of the Daily Intake (%DI) that one serving of a product contributes to the guideline daily amounts of nutrients for an average adult.

Why have % DIs on our labels?
Children and adults can enjoy occasional treats – such as lollies or chocolate – as part of a balanced diet and active lifestyle. Confectionery can add enjoyment and pleasure as well as variety to the diet.

Be treatwise and percentage Daily Intake information on our labels helps people get to know and understand that confectionery can be enjoyed as a treat. By including nutrition and Daily Intake information for each serving, we are helping people to make their own decisions about what foods they choose to include in a balanced diet and active lifestyle.
