Cadbury

Snow-Capped Tree Biscuits

Serves 10

Ingredients

150g soft butter
2/3 cup caster sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons Cadbury® Bournville® Cocoa
1 cup plain flour
1 cup self-raising flour
½ teaspoon mixed spice
Cadbury® Cooking Chocolate for melting and assembling trees
Lollies to decorate (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 160°C. Cream the butter and sugar together. Add the egg and mix well.
  2. Sift the cocoa, flours and spice into the butter mixture. Mix to a firm dough.
  3. Lightly knead the dough on a floured surface. Roll out to a thickness of 5 mm.
  4. Using at least five different-sized star cutters, cut out as many star shapes as possible. Place on a greased or lined baking tray.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
  6. To assemble the first tree, spread a little melted chocolate onto the centre of the largest size biscuit, and stick a square of chocolate on to resemble the tree trunk. Spread this square with a little more melted chocolate to hold the next size biscuit on. Continue building upwards in this way, using a smaller biscuit each time. Dip the smallest biscuit in melted chocolate and stand it upright on the tree. Hold it for a few minutes until the chocolate sets and the biscuit stands upright on its own.
  7. Dust liberally with icing sugar to resemble snow and decorate with lollies if desired. Repeat this process to make desired number of trees.

Note: Children love to make these trees – they make an ideal present for teachers or grandparents.
